My journey in music has been an extension of my legacy in it: My great-grandmother was a silent-movie piano player in Hammondsport, NY; her daughter, my grandmother, was an organist in my childhood church for 55 years and an early teacher of mine. Her daughter, my aunt, later followed her in both of those pursuits (and I followed her path at SUNY Fredonia). My dad is a Berklee grad, whose jazz chops always inspired me, even if I was too square to carry on that legacy exactly.
I have always been a fan of modern bluegrass, so while everyone else was perfecting sourdough in 2020, I picked up a banjo and started learning.
I am very much a banjo "owner" - someday I'll hopefully call myself a player.
One of my oldest dreams, orchestral conducting, is still in my heart and brain. I'd also love to visit the cello again; it was my secondary applied instrument as a piano student at SUNY Fredonia. (Although the last time I tried, it was pretty rough!) As I visit orchestral recordings more and more these days, you might find me writing down some thoughts.
